My Casio F-91W

(Recently, monocyte and Absurd Pirate wrote posts on “dumb” watches which have reached Bear Blog’s trending page. I’m using their posts as motivation to finish this post on mine which has been half-written for more than a month.)

Last winter I got a Casio F-91W. I got the basic black one with blue details. I’m pretty satisfied with it.

The last time I had a watch was some 20 years ago. A sportsy black/yellow Casio; I have no idea what was the model. I think I lost it after some of my swimming classes. I'm also sure I received an analog watch as a present, but never actually used it.

The main reason to get a new watch was that I wanted to go back running; and I hate running apps. Just a timer is enough. It also has an almost infinite battery and is very light.1

Since I stopped running during this Summer, I’m now mostly using it to time my pauses during weightlifting. The timer not being my phone is also a big bonus here.

It is also helps sometimes when traveling or giving presentations. Again, it is more convenient than my phone; and has no attention blackhole in it.

Its backlight is also quite charming, even if not very effective.

  1. Only 21 grams. For reference, most Apple Watches weight more than 30 grams.
